Title: The Arrival
This is Dan Busta’s father, Daniel, right before they left on a cross-country road trip to drive a custom-built hybrid pickup truck back to Illinois. Pictured are Daniel’s custom-built, velcro suspenders designed to pass through the metal detectors at the airport and if you look closely you can also see the outline of his money belt safely tucked under the shirt.
I made this photo during a recent shoot, but thought this would be a great cover for New York magazine. I have always admired the layout and the full page photos that are printed in the magazine. I would love to see a photo this dark on a cover.
I shot this with INTERVIEW Magazine and V Magazine in mind. V would have a harder time with the copy .. I realize I didn’t leave enough room around the model for the masthead.

All in all I think it fits the vibe of the magazines I chose. V Magazine and Interview… should of left a bit more space around the girl with gold dress image …
and know I’ll grace the cover one day soon!

I started shooting some still life lately, and figured this could be the cover of Wired. Possibly a story about fast food.
Since I assigned this, I figured I’d kick us off with this portrait I made. ‘The New York Times Magazine’ was my inspiration. I’ve always appreciated the beautiful portrait work featured in NYT Mag, and I just set out to make a strong portrait.

In April of this year I posted photos of a local New York coffee roaster that I have been documenting. Since April, I have made photos of the roaster/ commissary kitchen every month and plan on continuing the project indefinitely. Here is the story up to date- http://www.alangastelum.com/abraco4/
